Song 1: I set out to record a new and different version of the four songs I'd written for my Dangerous Moonlight EP in 2017, which had featured just my acoustic guitar and vocals by Dave Moore. Song 2: The 'Then & Now' series has also given me a chance to revisit four other old songs from my back catalogue. Song 3: Something to say. Song 4: Let's push the envelope and have some fun. Lockdown is a double-sided single - available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon and TikTok. During the Coronavirus Lockdown I wrote two songs expressing my views on this strange new world and recorded them on my iPhone using GarageBand. This was quite fiddly, with just the phone screen available for all the editing work. Simon Farmer produced two fab saxophone parts and sent them over. I mixed the finished recordings and forwarded them to Kevin Jones, who kindly mastered them ready for release. Dangerous Moonlight is a four-song EP featuring Dave Moore on vocals. I’d written a new batch of songs all inspired by ‘feelings’. Dave had done backing vocals on a couple of my previous albums and I am a big fan of his rich and warm voice, so decided to ask him to do the vocals on this project. Standing Room Only features twelve new self-penned compositions. With its combination of words and music, a song can be the most expressive of all artistic mediums and for me, the process of writing and recording is an extraordinary journey. I can explore real and often gritty subjects, making observations and asking questions. I then enjoy wrapping the lyric in both beautiful and powerful music. On this album, I move from fragile acoustic singer songwriter numbers, through jazz, country, rock and roll, to full blown epic rock. Some great musicians came along on the journey and I can’t thank them enough for their input, their time and most importantly, their talent, which helped make this a very special album.
